Tomato Festival 2023, September 1-3

The Tomato Festival 2023 will take place on September 1-3 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

For the fifth year in a row, we are introducing the diverse world of tomatoes at the Tallinn Botanic Garden.

The natural ancestors of tomatoes originate from South America, primarily the Andes. The cultivation of tomatoes as a crop began in Mexico. The first tomatoes that reached Europe were yellow and were grown as ornamental plants. Today, there are approximately 10,000 cultivated tomato varieties, with fruits varying in size, shape, and color. The flavors of tomatoes range from sour to sweet, mild to spicy. When growing tomatoes, you have the option to choose taller or shorter varieties, highly productive types, or traditional varieties with delicious and intriguing fruits.

The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Valdis Pūliņš from Latvia and Ingmar Pappel, who will share their experiences in tomato cultivation at the exhibition.

During the exhibition, it will be possible to purchase seeds of exciting tomato varieties as well as the fruits themselves.
